There is no doubt that our world is suffering.
We have climate change that is all set to bring our civilisation to an end and make vast swathes of the planet into a desert. Then there are the wars that are impacting every corner of the globe. Even in England we are feeling the knock on effects of Putin’s ill judged campaign into the Ukraine, not to mention the civil wars that are raging in the Yemen, Sudan and the Central African Republic, and the disproportionate reaction of Israel to the Palestinians. We all long for the day when all these wars will cease.
As a result of all these things, endless misery is caused to those fleeing conflict situations and seeking a better life in a more settled country.
A little known part of the general suffering on our world at the moment is being caused by the modern slave trade which permeates every country on earth. This alone affects over 27 million women, girls and young men all over the globe and causes untold misery. There are, however, a small band of people, of which I am one, who is campaigning against this trade particularly as it impacts on women and girls who are lured into becoming sex slaves.
Because of this I have written a novel showing just how deep is the suffering experienced by one such slave. I hope to raise awareness of the subject by doing this. I am not alone in my efforts , however, and I heard the other day a lovely description of our work. The speaker said, The campaign against modern slavery is a ‘glimmer of gold in a suffering world.’ Please join me in becoming part of that glimmer of gold shining through the misery all around by reading my novel.
