The traffic in sexual slaves is just as alive and well in America as elsewhere in the world. In a television programme made by a police department in America dedicated to rescuing and prosecuting those who traffic in sexual slaves, several prostitutes told of their experiences. It recounted how these girls, some as young as 13 years old are tricked into the sex trade with promises of being well rewarded by their pimps.
One particular girl recounted how when she asked for some wages for her work, her pimp put his hands around her throat and strangled her almost to the point of death and then asked ‘do I owe you anything?’ I think that most of us would answer ‘no,’ just to save our lives as she did. This highlights some of the problems that enforced prostitution brings with it.
The whole subject of enforced slavery whether economic or sexual inspires feelings of the deepest anger in me. Because of this I have written a novel called ‘The Garden of Sparkling Delight,’ which seeks to show the utter cruelty and terror these girls have to endure.
There are many ways of protesting about this outrage in the 21th century but enabling people to enter in to the plight of sexual slaves is a particularly effective one. This can be done by reading a novel.
Even films are not so effective as the watcher is a third party who is observing something happening to someone else. Reading a story, on a page or listening privately can enable you to identify with the hero or heroine.
The novel is published by Amazon and can be obtained in paperback and on Kindle. There is also as the free audio version available from this site or YouTube. The author is Deborah Varen. Please read it or listen to it and join the fight against sexual slavery in our world either by using your own skills in some way or by supporting one of the non-government organisations who work in this field. Details can be found below in this blog and in the back of the book.
