‘ I wandered into a bookshop on my way to somewhere else, Oh dear...’
On a more serious note he also said, ‘ Books allow you to go into the world of others.’
This is so true. My favourite go-to book if I’m feeling stressed is ‘The Wind in the Willows.’ This is because it conjures up a picture of animals, acting like humans in a safe and tranquil setting. When on holiday, I prefer a good thriller however! Also if I want to ‘go’ to other countries without getting out of our armchairs one good way of doing this then I read a travel book: better still a novel set in another country and culture. This means too that if you long to enter into the experience of someone else who is in a dreadful situation from which they are helpless to escape and which you know you will never have to endure, books are a good way of doing this.
A good example of this is to read the novel, ‘The Garden of Sparkling Delight,’ by Deborah Varen, available on Amazon as a paperback and on Kindle. You will also find it as a free audio download from this site and YouTube. Just use this link to the audio, The Podcast or go to the links at the top of this WEB page and select 'Tis The Podcast'. There you will find access to the 21 half hours episodes to listen on-line or download for later listening and sharing.
This exciting book follows the story of a young Brazilian girl who is inveigled into sexual slavery and what happens to her once trapped in this violent and horrendous existence. Alongside the main story runs a simple love story which eventually becomes entwined with that of the main character. Please read or listen to this book and join the increasing number of like minded folk such as myself, who long to challenge this evil in the world.
Please recommend The Garden of Sparkling Delight to your friends. Reviews would be much appreciated.
Thank you so much.
