Gaslighting and Love Bombing

Two words which has come to the fore in the last few months are ‘gaslighting,’ 

and 'love bombing'.

I was intrigued to learn what these were, so looked them up on Google. 

‘Gaslighting,’ revolves around persuading the other person that they don’t understand what is really happening. On occasions this can involve some sort of physical violence towards another person and the perpetrator then saying that it didn’t happen. 

‘Love bombing,’ on the other hand seems to be when a man, or woman begins a relationship with exaggerated expressions of love and when the other person is then safely in love, begins to be controlling and abusive. 

Both these methods of controlling others are used by sexual slavery traffickers. Very often a young girl is lured into a relationship by protestations of love by an older man only then to be abused. They are then often sold on to be sex workers in brothels and never see their original ‘love’ again. Often too, as in gaslighting, young girls are physically abused and then told that they can’t go back to their homes as if they do their relatives will be attacked. These lies keep such girls in abject slavery, where they endure years of exploitation. 

To get some idea what this can be like, please read ‘The Garden of Sparkling Delight,’ by Deborah Varen which is a novel on this subject, written to help ordinary folk enter into what it feels like to be a sexual slave. This is a not for profit book at the end of which are a list of some of the charities who work to rescue such girls.
