My husband and I have just been away on holiday and taken an audio book with us to listen to. It was a thriller about gold seekers with many exciting twists and turns and many very scary moments as various factions battle to obtain ownership of the gold. As this thriller ended the two ‘goodies’ go off hand in hand into the sunset and all is very happy and satisfying.
However life isn’t like that for the vast mass of humanity who are below a certain standard of living and some sections of society are rarely going to experience a happy ending moment ever in their lives.
Modern slaves come into this category especially those who are trapped in the cage of sexual slavery. None of the men who come daily to their rooms, is ever going to take them by the hand and walk with them into a glorious, rosy sunset full of happiness. These men, indeed, don’t even tend to think of the girls they use as human. The best sexual slaves can hope for is to get free at some future date by which time they will have been irreparably damaged both mentally and physically.

This will give you an idea of the kind of mental and physical damage such a young girl has to endure. Lest you should feel that you cannot cope with total sadness, let me reassure you by saying that there is a ‘walking off into the sunset moment,’ in the novel but it does not belong to the abused girl but to a sub plot. The human spirit cannot endure too much sadness and horror so the author has woven positive themes throughout the pages of the story as well as telling of the dark side of sexual slavery.
