The Prince’s Trust

As we in the UK listen to and watch the media coverage of our new King I think we are beginning to realise just how much the former Prince Charles has already accomplished in his seven decades of life.  When young, he seemed to be the archetypal young man out for a good time but as we have progressed through the century he has become very serious and extremely hard working.

One of his finest achievements is the establishment of The Prince’s Trust.  This aims to help really poor and deprived young people from some of the toughest parts of the UK.  It has enabled many to recover from their bad start in life, even giving some young ex-prisoners the help they need to successfully get on in the world.

On a recent radio programme, the journalist Kate Addie recounts how a former rent boy kept an audience of wealthy potential donors enthralled by the story of how the Trust had turned his life around.  One of The Trusts main aims is to give all young people the chance to realise their full potential no matter how difficult their initial start in life has been.

There is actually nothing sadder, than to see an able person not enable to succeed purely because they are disadvantaged, yet that is what is happening in our world to millions of young women and boys in every country in the world who are trapped mentally and often physically in sexual slavery.  One longs for the time when their plight is so well known that all can be helped to escape as that young man has, and fulfil their potential.

If this disturbs you as it disturbs me please read the novel ‘The Garden of Sparkling Delight,’ by Deborah Varen available from Amazon in paperback and on the Kindle e-reader.
