A recent episode on the BBC Radio 4 programme ‘File On Four’ dealt with the case of a young British girl who had been drawn into the sexual slavery industry in the United Kingdom. Her story was a typical one of a young British teenager who had started to bunk off school and then spent her days in online chat rooms where she was groomed by and unscrupulous slaver very much older than herself.
He gave her the impression that he was passionately in love with her, and they arranged to meet. That meeting changed her life. She was drugged, raped and given £25 then sent away. Before she went home he said to her ’You’re mine now. I own you. Tell anyone and you’re in trouble.’ She was terrified and from that moment on was in bondage to the slave trader. Very soon she was being repeatedly gang raped by the men in his group and has calculated that over the next few years she had been raped by more than a thousand men up and down the length of the UK.
This sort of slavery does not depend on bars and ropes but is kept in place by sheer terror. Neither were these idle threats. When she inevitably became pregnant the same gang kicked and beat her until she had a miscarriage knowing that once she had got into the National Health maternity network then they would lose her.
All slavery is terrifying but sexual slavery is perhaps the most terrifying of all. To get an idea of what might be going through the mind of one such slave, please read the novel ‘The Garden of Sparkling Delight,’ by Deborah Varen, available from Amazon in paperback and on the Kindle e-reader.
All profits from this book go to waging war on sexual slavery. Please recommend the book to your friends. This will help raise awareness of this dreadful and growing problem in the UK and round the world.
