On Monday 24 January 2022, the BBC screened a programme on their television channel BBC2 about the problem of sex slaves in Romania. The programme was also very relevant to the United Kingdom where a high proportion of these sex slaves end up. The presenter pointed out that often in the suburbs in the UK towns and cities what appears to be an innocuous semi-detached house will in fact be a pop up brothel full of up to 12 inmates who service up to 20 men a day. One day the house next door to you will be empty, the next, with a minimum of furniture, it will be a brothel where girls little by little inexorably lose their happiness and lives.
The problem starts back in Romania where the police do nothing to stop young girls from being physically kidnapped. One case was reported when a young girl was kidnapped on her way home from school. She was held by her captors in a locked room and three times phoned the police pleading with them to come and rescue her. Nothing was done and when they did eventually go, it was to find that she had been murdered. Her parents are desolated.
