This is an extract from the novel ‘The Garden of Sparkling Delight,’ by Deborah Varen. Yara, who is a friend of the chief character, is a girl who has been tricked into working in a brothel, has just escaped and gone to enlist the help of a friend.
“I’ve got to get help for Tis,’ replied Yara. She’s fading away. I must get home and fetch her father.’ And she told him where Tis lived. Chinn whistled.’ That’s a long way,’ he exclaimed. ‘Have you got any money?’ ‘No, I haven’t ,’ she wailed looking at him desperately. ‘Look,’ said Chinn, ‘I’ll give you what I can. Then go to the bus station and catch a bus home. While you’re gone I’ll keep an eye on Tis. I’ve been worried about her too. She’s getting so thin.’ The words hung between them and the two looked at each other, both thinking the same though but afraid to put it into words in case it made the thought come true.”
The two characters above were right to be worried about their friend as she was seriously ill with a disease she had caught from one of the punters. Whether they were successful in saving her life or not you will have to read the rest of the book to discover. The book can be obtained from Amazon, in hard copy or Kindle, or by downloading a free audio version from this site or You Tube.
The story indeed, seeks to draw attention to the fact that few sex slaves escape with their health, either mental or physical, intact, even if they are fortunate enough to get away from their captivity in real life. Please read the book and pass on to your friends in order to raise the awareness of the appalling human cost of modern slavery.
